Navigating Levator Ani injury
I am a proud mother of two wonderful kids, though my journey through motherhood took an unexpected turn after the challenges of my first childbirth. It was sadly a traumatic experience, even though I didn’t realise that straight away. First days filled with love and happiness I just laughed how hard the birth was. Walking was impossible and I had visible issues straight away but even the bowel incontinence for the first few days did not make me think much of it until later when I discovered prolapse.
The baby got stuck in a posterior position, making the birthing process more challenging. It all took 36 hours of pain and a prolonged and strenuous three-hour purple push last phase. Even with an incision, the delivery was arduous, leaving both me and my new born with significant swelling.
Twelve days postpartum, I discovered I had Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP), and the impact was profound. Coping with this reality has been a continuous struggle, not only mentally but also physically. I have lived a limited life since impacting my daily life, caring for my children and doing simple house chores has been a difficulty to me.
My hope is that this blog becomes a resource for every woman that needs it, regardless of their motherhood journey or age, as pelvic floor dysfunction can affect us all. Through my experiences, I aim to shed light on various issues and topics related to pelvic health, hoping that it serves as an informative guide for young mothers facing decisions about childbirth and provides valuable insights for all women on how to care for their pelvic floor to prevent issues such as urinary incontinence or reproductive organ prolapse. After all, these concerns impact us collectively, and together we can navigate the intricacies of pelvic health.
